The Brown University-Tougaloo College Partnership was started in 1964 during the Civil Rights Era. Although the partnership has remained steady, perceptions of the partnership and the programs run through this partnership have changed. We read several articles detailing the beginning of the partnership and learned that the exchange program was not always seen in the positive light it is now. Although Blacks constitute approximately 11% of the population of the United State, only 1% of the engineers graduated from accredited colleges and universities at the end of the 1972-1973 academic year were Black.
